Garage Sale Find and Future Furniture Makeover

Front View

With the holidays fast approaching, I've had little time to work on any of my pending projects.  With that in mind I decided to share this awesome garage sale find.  Driving around one Saturday afternoon, I saw a garage sale sign and of course I had to stop.  I was particularly looking for small furniture pieces to repaint.  The family having the garage sale shared that due to a disability they have regular garage sales to make money for groceries.  I was touched, so I gave them my phone number to let me know when they have sales in the future.

So, now back to the find of the day.  Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe this is a storage side table.  It has a pull out to set a beverage on, a storage compartment, and a place for magazines in the back.

I think it will make a great creative project.
I'm thinking something a little shabby chic.
What do you think?

Thrift Store Lost its Lease

I'm not sure if I'm happy about this or sad; but a local thrift store has lost its lease.  They don't want to move their inventory; and after speaking to the owner today; she doesn't have a new location yet.  They have to be out by the end of the month.  So, do I go load up on the bargains; or do I save my money?  Especially at this time of year.  Sadly, it isn't the most organized or clean thrift store in town; but I could find some real treasures for future project.  Not that I don't already have 4 or 5 waiting to be done.  What to do, what to do.... any advice from my readers?

What would you do?

Painted Vintage Telephone Table

Hello everyone!  I want to thank you for stopping by and taking the time to read my blog.  I know I'm not the best photographer in the world; so is the case of someone who suffers from Generalized Anxiety Disorder.  Regardless, I certainly give it a try.

I've wanted to try furniture makeovers after watching Cash and Cari on HGTV; but like many other hobbies; supplies and tools were a little more than I could handle financially.  So the desire was delayed for a while.  I'm finally getting around to picking up things needed to get some of these long awaited projects completed.

Painted Vintage Telephone Table
(Used as a bedside table.)

Below is a vintage telephone table that I picked up at an estate sale a couple of years ago.  I hand sanded it, then it sat next to my bed for quite a while.  I think I paid $25 for it on 50% off day.

I picked up this previously mixed quart of Valspar Signature paint at my local Lowe's.  I thought the color was pretty; and the closest I could identify it to is Babbling Brook.
Sold as is with no refund was no problem.

I thought I'd be frugal and "smart" by creating my own concoction of paint and plaster of paris.  At first it worked really well; but after just a few minutes the concoction began to dry and thicken up; making it difficult to work with.... as you can see below after an hour or so it even began to separate.  It was a disgusting mess.

But the project wasn't a total loss....  After fighting with the messy glob, I used the paint straight out of the can for the 2nd coat. I'm happy with the color and results.  All that's left is waxing.

I'm not fond of over distressing pieces of funiture.  Do you think this needs a little distressing?  I kind of like it as is.

Have a wonderful blessed day!

Week of Inspiration

Hello everyone, I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving.  I for one was off from my fulltime day job all week.  So I spent a little time window shopping and looking for inspiration.    Not much Black Friday shopping for me.

Be sure to check back tomorrow for the furniture makeover I completed.  Here's a sneak peak.

Now for the Week of Inspiration

The piece below is an updated kitchen cupboard I saw at a local auction company's sales floor.  Isn't it a beautiful piece?  Displayed with vintage chicken/rooster ceramics among other joyful accessories.

Ticket Price:  $799.00

This piece is situated in a very good friend's daughter's bathroom.
A cute little corner shelf repainted in turquoise with the
inside painted a contrasting burgandy.

This little piece is in the same friend's home.
A nice little side table next to the sofa.

And finally, this piece was seen inside the ladies restroom at a local
car wash/boutique.

Ticket Price:  $495.95
